ScribeFire, Blogger Custom Domain And The Image Not Appearing Issue

ScribeFire is a Firefox extension, that enables you to edit and post to all types of blogging platform – Google Blogger, Wordpress, LiveJournal and <a href="http://blog.scribefire.com/help/supported-services/">many more</a>. Within a short span of time, ScribeFire had made such a large number fans that ScribeFire had to name its <a href="http://www.scribefire.com/testimonials">testimonial page</a> as the World’s largest testimonial page. Yes, ScribeFire team, we buy that. However, if you are a blogspot blogger having a custom URL, like www.name.com instead of http://name.blogspot.com, then chances are that you may have been bitten by a ScribeFire bug. Images that you upload using Google API mysteriously vanishes. You have double checked the html source of the post and ensured that the <img> tag is pointing towards the image. Still, when you load the blog in a browser, the images are missing. <h3>The Problem</h3> When you upload an image using Google API, you get a link like: <code>http://xyz.ggpht.com/<username>/AB_CDEF123/AAAAAAAAAmk/RANDOM-Letters/s1600-h/image-name.jpg</code>. The problem is that, this is a link to the full size image and Google prevents hot-linking to this image from any domain other than *.blogspot.com. So if you are hosting your blog in a custom domain, the images fail to appear. In this point of view, this is less of a ScribeFire bug and more of a Blogger bug. The Google image servers ought to know that a blog is hosted under a custom domain name and that domain name should be given full respect, as of the name.blogspot.com address. <h3>Solution:</h3> Go to the html mode in ScribeFire and go to the image code. It should look like: <code><img src="http://xyz.ggpht.com/<username>/AB_CDEF123/AAAAAAAAAmk/RANDOM-Letters/s1600-h/image-name.jpg"></code> Append the string "<code>?imgmax=800</code>" to the end of the image URL. So, your final html shoudl look like: <code><img src="http://xyz.ggpht.com/<username>/AB_CDEF123/AAAAAAAAAmk/RANDOM-Letters/s1600-h/image-name.jpg?imgmax=800"></code> Now your images will begin to appear normally. In today’s <a href="http://www.dailygyan.com/search/label/Hacks">hack gyan</a>, we introduce you to a new program – <a href="http://www.pcloginnow.com/">PCLoginNow</a>. This is a tool meant to reset administrator password for Windows machine in case you forget it. (Yeah right!). The feature that we loved most and compelled us to write this post is that the program can convert your account from an under-privileged account to an administrator account. Sweet. Before we dive into nitty gritties of getting you administrator powers in any Windows box, let’s see a quick review of this program: Pros: <ul> <li>Success rate – 100%. Yes, you are guaranteed to get admin powers in all Windows machines. </li> <li>Freeware – Absolutely zero cost. Other similar applications cost hundreds of dollars. </li> <li>Correctly detects if you have more than one Windows OS installed. </li> <li>Works on Windows Vista, Windows XP/XP with SP2, Windows 2003 server , Windows 2000/NT </li> <li>Supports all Windows file systems - NTFS, FAT16, FAT32. </li> <li>In addition to resetting the administrator password and elevating your limited account to an administrator account, this program can also lock out and unlock all user accounts in the machine. </li> <li>Noob friendly – You don’t need to have a PhD in Nuke Physics to run this program. However, having balls of steel is recommended in case your IT administrator finds out what you did. </li> </ul> Cons: <ul> <li>You need to have physical access to the computer. </li> <li>You should be able to boot from CD for this to work. If your administrator has disabled booting from CD, this won’t work. </li> <li>Has been proven allergic to network IT administrators. When you login to any web site, Firefox offers to save your user name and password. The next time you visit that page, user name and password fields are auto completed for you. A real time-saver.But have you ever wondered why this doesn't work in certain sites? For instance, Firefox doesn't offer to save password if you login to <a href='http://www.yahoo.com'>Yahoo</a>, <a href='http://delicious.com/'>delicious</a>, <a href='http://www.paypal.com/'>paypal</a> and a large number of banking sites.This is because these sites request Firefox not to save passwords through a special flag: <code>autocomplete="off"</code>. When a web site sets this flag, it is an indication to the browser not to save the entered values.
